Drawing blood at homeAlthough all blood should be treated with care and preferably be drawn in clinical situations at a laboratory, we do have some home test kits, which requires very little blood, and with the use of a "Medlance" finger pricking device this is made easy. Although "drawing blood at home" sounds very ominous, the home test kits that we sell, only use a couple of drops, and is easily, privately and painlessly done. The Medlance is used as follows:
The lancet will automatically eject itself from the sheath of the Medlance and penetrate the skin. It does not cause pain, and the finger prick that is formed is just large enough to squeeze out the required amount of drops. After the procedure has been done, it is best to again wipe the site with the alcohol swab. A plaster is generally not required on the site, but one can be applied if so wished. The lancet is so designed that it can only be used once, and also does not leave sharp needle edges and can safely be disposed. When attending to this procedure at home, please dispose of any materials in a safe way as not to cause a biological hazard for anybody else.
